THE ISLAND OF MISFIT CAMERAS
DECOR ITEM / ITEM #7433
Polaroid Automatic 450
Approximate year: 1971-1974 • In-store price: $10
Film: Polaroid 100-series pack film, discontinued
Status: DECOR ONLY. Untested; sold as a display piece
A folding 1970s Polaroid that now does exactly one thing: look fantastic on a shelf.
The Automatic 450 was made from 1971 to 1974, one of Polaroid's peel-apart pack-film cameras with a bellows that unfolds like a tiny accordion. In its day it turned every family barbecue into an instant photo shoot, complete with the smell of developer chemicals and somebody peeling the print apart way too early.
Here's why it's DECOR ONLY: Polaroid stopped making pack film long ago, and Fujifilm, the last big maker, discontinued it in 2016. This one hasn't been tested either, so it's sold purely as a display piece. Put it on a bookshelf and let your guests assume you're a very serious analog person.
