THE ISLAND OF MISFIT CAMERAS
DECOR ITEM / ITEM #9648
Bell & Howell 333 Turret Movie Camera
Approximate year: 1950s • In-store price: $20
Film: 8mm movie film
Status: DECOR ONLY. Does not work
Three lenses on a spinning turret, mid-century metal, and a career that is officially over.
The Bell & Howell 333 is a 1950s 8mm home-movie camera with the coolest feature of the era: a three-lens turret. Normal, wide angle, and telephoto lenses sit on a rotating plate, and you spin the one you want into place. It's the original zoom, powered by your wrist. It also looks like something a Bond villain would use to film his own monologue.
Why it's DECOR ONLY: this one is completely nonfunctional and not worth repairing. I kept it because that turret is just too good-looking to throw away. It's sold strictly as a display piece.
