“You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby.” And apparently a tobacco company would like credit for some of the journey.
This original 1970s Virginia Slims ad is an interesting example of a brand trying to attach itself to women’s independence. The marketing deserves the raised eyebrow here. It’s a strong piece for a collection about advertising, social change, and the remarkable corporate instinct to spot a movement and ask where the logo should go.
