A rhinoceros holding tires is a remarkably direct way of saying “rugged.” Nobody needed a second meeting about that one.

This original 1950s Armstrong Rhino-Flex advertisement features the “Rugged Is Right” headline and the company’s period guarantee pitch. The animal illustration gives it a fun presence in a garage or workshop. The guarantee belongs to the historical tire ad; I’m selling the original paper, which is considerably easier to ship than either a tire or a rhinoceros.
